Job Description

Job Title:  Library Program Coordinator

Hours:  30 hrs./week

Reports to:  FSPLD Director

 

Job Summary:  This position is responsible for all library programs. Currently, this includes weekly Storytime for preschoolers, a monthly LEGO Club for K-5th graders, a Maker’s Lab held after school for K-5th graders two times each month, a “How to” series program for teens and adults held once each month, and our annual Summer Reading program for all ages.

 

Duties:

  • Work with Library Director to plan overall service programming.
  • Design and present programs for all ages based on the needs of the library and our community.
  • Design monthly program calendar using Microsoft Publisher and/or Canva.
  • Promote his/her programs in the local newspaper, Facebook, Instagram, monthly program calendar, and signage in the library.
  • Design passive programs for preschoolers and elementary age children, such as coloring stations and Take-It and Make-It crafts.
  • Manage the library’s Makerspace by circulating materials routinely and keeping STEAM supplies and toys clean and in good order.
  • Design a bulletin board display to encourage the love of reading at least 4 times each year.
  • Responsible for the organizing of library program supplies and materials in program storage room.
  • Assist with staffing the circulation desk when needed.
  • Attend and participates in all staff meetings.
  • Attend educational workshops when possible.

 

Job Specifications:

  • Some college or university courses in work-related subjects such as, library science, early childhood development, and children’s literature
  • Physically able to bend and lift and move small stacks of books (up to 20 lbs.)
  • 1-3 years’ work experience
  • Has a strong professional interest in child development, reading, literature, and library science

 

Skills:  Microsoft office, email, web searching, good oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, able to multitask and prioritize tasks, an understanding of childhood learning and development, and a demonstration of interpersonal skills. The candidate must be able to use social media to promote his/her programs.  The candidate must also be comfortable with meeting with children, parents, caregivers, and the community. He/she must be willing to attend continuing education training and workshops to keep current with modern technologies and library trends.

 

Benefits: IMRF pension and Paid Time Off as follows:  after 90 days, Paid Time Off is earned by receiving 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.  After one year of employment, he/she will earn 2 weeks Paid Time Off.
